    1. Hello, Claus – Professional statistician Kaiser Fung suggested I reach out to you to see if you might want to review / read his new book, Numbersense: How to Use Big Data to Your Advantage.

While huge amounts of Big Data are being generated every second, the way it’s analyzed is subject to interpretation – and often wrong and misleading.

Fung is the author of and adjunct professor of Statistics at New York University’s Stern School of Business. Numbersense argues that in a world overflowing with data, the numbers are interpreted incorrectly and then regurgitated out to us with clear biases, misleading information and flat-out faulty conclusions.

With fascinating anecdotes that crunch the data, Fung finds the conclusions made for us – by reporters, by the government, by business – are riddled with analytical errors, which trickles down from data to sources to the individual decisions we make which affect our business and professional decisions to the stock market to which schools we attend and why, which airlines to trust, our Fantasy Football picks and much, much more.

In the same vein as Moneyball, Freakonomics, and Big Data, Fung urges us to be more critical about data analyses and shows us how to break it down.

Let me know if you’d like to take a look at the book for interview consideration.

      Cheers, Ann Pryor

    2. Claus mein freund! Wie geht? It’s been far too long! For this reason, I’ve decided to travel to Stuttgart for some much overdo Claus time. Alright, that’s not the sole reason I’ll be there, but having a chance to catch up would certainly be a super bonus to the trip. I’ll be in town from August 5th to 14th, right before Goldschmidt. Fire me an email when you get a chance, I sure hope you’ll be around so we can grab some beers and schnitzel!
